I remember my first time wedding dress shopping, I went in and really had NO clue what I was supposed to do. Honestly, if I hadn't joined some wedding groups, I would have had NO idea that I was supposed to call ahead to make an appointment. Wedding dress shopping, as it turns out, is not as simple as going to the mall and picking out a dress, there's a LOT more involved. Now, each store is different in their process, but today I'm going to give you a heads up what it's like to have an appointment here at Marion Bridal so you can be prepared.
When you first walk in to Marion Bridal, after you pass the dresses in the display, you'll see your name on our chalkboard. How cool is that? Any bride with an appointment gets her name put up as a personalized greeting, because we want you to know that you have our full attention that day, you're not just some number in a book or a sale we can make.
Once you come to the front counter, you'll be greeted by one of our friendly staff. We'll give you a form to fill out with some basic questions about you, your wedding, and what you're looking for in a dress. Don't fret, this isn't to judge! This just helps us get a better feel for you and what to look for for you. After you're done with the paperwork, you're free to take a look at the dresses we have on the racks to get some inspiration.
After your paperwork is complete, the next step is getting you in a dressing room and measured. Your consultant will grab you a robe and will take you back into a dressing room and talk to you a bit more about your ideal dress. If you have photos (Pinterest, bridal magazines, whatever), we LOVE those! They help us to get a better idea what you're looking for in a dress. We'll talk to you about things like what your favorite feature is, what style gowns you've tried on before (if you have tried on any), maybe even what kind of prom dresses you've worn. We want you to feel comfortable, and we want to give you the best experience possible.
While you're getting prepared to try on dresses, the consultant will go out and find some great ones for you to try on. If your dress isn't in the first selection, don't fret! Just be honest with us with everything you put on. If you don't like the sparkles, let us know. Do you want to have sleeves? We can look for that or discuss alterations for that! WE can't find YOUR dress is YOU don't tell US what to look for. Trust me, we've tried to read minds, it just doesn't always work the greatest. As the appointment goes on, your consultant will continue to get you more dresses, ideally narrowing it down to the "ah-ha" moment (we say "ah-ha" because we know not every bride is in tears, and that's perfectly OK).
Once a dress is on, we'll have you take a look in the dressing room mirror and decide if it's worth taking out to show your entourage or even just see for yourself in the mirror. If it's a not straight from the start, we'll take that one off and try again. If you're on the fence or think you love it, we'll take you out to the viewing area for everyone to see. There, we'll spread out your train for you to get a better view and feel for how the dress will be on your big day. While we do what we can in the dressing room, nothing will do it justice to see it in the big mirror. If you're in love with the dress, we'll accessorize a bit and have you take a look from there. If you see yourself walking down the aisle to meet the most amazing man ever at the other side, seeing him beaming at you from ear to ear as you come closer, then we have found the one.
One huge way we're different from our competition? All our staff are non-commissioned, so we are there for you. We know not every bride will strike her "ah-ha" moment in the store, and some may but may be wary about purchasing right off the bat or may want some second opinions, and that's OK. We don't want to make you feel pressured into buying the dress that we are selling to you just that someone can pay the bills. This dress is one of the MOST important parts of your day, the last thing you need is to be pressured into buying the wrong one. We want you to be confident in your choice, to know you chose the right dress for you on your big day.
